Glendale Students Get Career Training Through College & Career Ready Lab

Desert Sky Middle School runs a College & Career Ready Lab where 7th and 8th graders explore four different career paths per semester. The class is highly hands-on, covering fields like sports medicine, robotics, 3D printing, and crime scene analysis. The program aims to help students make informed decisions about the high school classes they should take for future careers.

"You want them interested in something so they can take classes at the high school and have an education on that career to make an informed decision whether they want to go that route in the future or not.

I usually run them through four careers in a semester. Then I ask them to do new experiences next year. The students learn what they like, what they don't, and more importantly, where their talents lie."

Eric Axelrod

Instructor

The lab offers a variety of career modules, including 3D printing, sports medicine (where students learn to wrap a sprained finger), video production, culinary arts, and crime scene analysis (where students lift fingerprints). Robotics is also a popular choice.
