Berea Middle School Students Explore Careers Through Hands-On Learning
Updated: Oct 5
Students at Berea Middle School in Greenville, South Carolina, recently welcomed visitors from Cliffs Residents Outreach for a firsthand look at career exploration in action.
During the visit, students showcased hands-on learning experiences from their Paxton/Patterson Lab modules, giving guests an opportunity to see how middle school scholars are exploring future pathways through real-world activities and career-connected projects.
Intro to Health Professions Comes to Life
One of the highlights of the visit was Berea’s Intro to Health Professions class, where students demonstrated why these Paxton/Patterson modules have become a favorite.
In the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) module, students practiced dressing a “bleeding wound,” applying air splints, and measuring medications. In Therapeutic Services, students worked through cognitive assessments, while Sports Medicine activities introduced a spine board used for head injuries.
These hands-on experiences give students a clearer understanding of what professionals in the health field do every day while helping them build confidence, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Exploring More Career Pathways
Visitors also had the chance to see students engaged in other career-focused learning experiences, including Cosmetology & Barbering, where students explored foundational personal care techniques and industry-related tools.
By offering a variety of modules, Berea Middle gives students the opportunity to discover different interests and begin thinking more intentionally about future courses, programs, and career possibilities.
Connecting the Classroom to the Community
The visit from Cliffs Residents Outreach added another meaningful layer to the experience. As students shared their work and explained what they were learning, they were not only demonstrating technical skills, but also practicing professionalism and communication.
For Berea Middle students, career exploration is more than learning about a job. It is an opportunity to experience real-world pathways, build confidence, and connect their learning to the future.
